The flood situation is worsening as the river water of the Brahmaputra-Jamuna basin continues to increase.
Already, as many as 5 government upazilas of 5 districts have been flooded.
The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center of the Water Development Board said new areas are flooding due to the increase of water in major rivers. Flooding may also occur in lower parts of Dhaka.
Executive engineer of the center, Sajjad Hossain, said that the water is increasing at 4 of the 5 monitoring points of the rivers. Of these, water is flowing above the danger limit at 20 points. Water is rising at the same rate in Brahmaputra-Jamuna, Ganga-Padma and Surma-Kushia.
